This is the next chapter…DANTE return with their 5th studio album „WINTER“, a bold statement by the alchemists of Prog.

While the release of their 3rd album „November Red“ was overshadowed by the severe illness and eventual death of DANTE co-founder Markus Berger (the band only recently released a tribute Piano version of „Shores of Time“ off of that album), their highly praised and successful 4th release „When We Were Beautiful“ in a way always was the „first album without him“ and made it an emotionally difficult album for the band, trying to keep Markus´ spirit alive in the new music and also trying to move on and further develop the band.

The simple fact that the band succeeded in doing so, staying loyal to both their history and Markus´ spirit while growing as a band and incorporating new elements, did not come as a surprise, as the band never was afraid of a good challenge and also over the years had developed an extremely tight bond. Yet, it was still a big emotional relief for the band that it all went so well with that album.

„Winter“ clearly opens up a new page in the book for the band from Augsburg / Germany with the full integration of guitar virtuoso Julian Kellner (who joined the band right at the time of the release of „When We Were Beautiful“ and was already part of their acclaimed Live-DVD „Where Life Was Beautiful – Live in Katowice“) and swedish bass monster Jim Magnusson into the band and the songwriting process, and while it still offers DANTE´s trademark skills – the great enthusiasm in the playing, the intellectual challenges and musical twists, the overall amount of musicality and musicianship – and the knack for BIG choruses of course! – it clearly has quite a few new flavors and an overall heavyness that sets it apart from the band´s previous albums while still unmistakably being a DANTE album right at the album´s DNA and beyond.

The result is a thrilling, thriving, pulsing and heavy pounding, emotionally powerful and virtuoso ProgMetal-Masterpiece driven by a band with a true vision in musical excellence.

„So here it is: the long awaited third album of DANTE : „november red“. Soon after the release of our album „saturnine“ in July 2010, we began with the songwriting for a new album and we were pretty sure it would be done within a year. But things didn’t work out such perfectly as we hoped at this time. Our bass player Michael Neumaier left the band because he had to move to Paris for a new job. So we started all over again because there were concerts to play. Our former guitarist Markus Berger switched to the position of the vacant job and Markus A. Bader became the only remaining guitarist of the band.

Then something very very bad happenend. Markus Berger became very ill. Being a essential part of the Band and in the whole recording process the working on „november red“ slowed down. But after all we did it. In retrospect I don’t remember how. We just moved on, just as we promised him to do.

As we signed a new contract with the legendary german Label massacre records we knew, this very special piece of music won’t be unheared. „November Red“ would be born.

We were glad and full of joy. The band still existed. And we were prepared for the return of Markus. But then things get worse after all. Markus Berger didn’t recover from his terrible disease. In fact: He died 20 days before the Release of „November Red“.

So this album is now also the legacy of a fantastic musician and a very very very good friend.

This one is for you my friend! We miss you so much! We love you! I wish I had told you that more often than I actually did when you were still alive … „

„Soon after the release of our first album „The Inner Circle“ we instantly knew as artists, that DANTE wasn’t a studio project anymore and we wanted to play live on stage. So in the year 2008 Michael Neumaier joined the band to play the bass guitar and we gave our first concerts, promoting „The Inner Circle“. In this summer Markus Maichel took me to his car after we met with some friends, pushed a CD in his CD Player and let me listen to the first idea for the second album. After I heared „All My Life“ for the first time, I instantly knew : our fear, that we couldn’t write an album like „The Inner Circle“ a second time was clearly unfounded.

From now on, we wrote on the songs for „Saturnine“ for the whole next year and Markus Maichel and Markus Berger recorded them in our new RED TUBE STUDIOS. We were thrilled to bits when „saturnine“ was released on Prog Rock Records in July 2010.

Today, I still like the album very much and simply love the songs  „Last“ „Never Return“ „Vanessa“ and the ballad „Maybe One Day“  – and so did the critics worldwide.

If i had only one word to describe my feelings about our second Album „Saturnine“ it would be: pride!

Wow, I can´t believe it´s been 7 years now that we started writing what was to become our very first album „The Inner Circle“.

Markus Berger and I had been friends since school. We both went our ways after that, but never lost touch, and when we met in late 2006 and talked about doing some music together again, we went right into it. For a few weeks we could not arrange a session, so we decided to share clips online and work with that. I remember that Markus did finally send me an instrumental file called „S7“, like 2,5 minutes long, with a really crappy sounding GM-Drumkit. I did a few overdubs, sent it back, and Markus really liked what he heard and from that day on we regularily met to write music together. „S7“ finally became „More Or Less A Man“, and basically the first 2,5 minutes of the song on the album are basically those first ideas!

We had so much fun doing music together! We did all those sessions in Markus´ flat in a real tiny room, it was always a big deal to get all my keyboards in – we even had to MIDI up a keyboard in the next room…everytime we wanted to change something, somebody had to get up, walk over, change it and come back! But it was a blast!

In those days I sung all the guide vocals (which I still often do to this day – hopefully none of that will ever leak!!), and first we had no real idea about what to do with the music, there were initially no plans to form a band, it was all about writing the music. To get rid of those mediocre vocals we asked Alex, also a friend from school, to come over and sing, just to get a better impression of how it would sound. And somehow Alex just kept singing every new song, and all of a sudden he was „the singer“, it was just a natural process.

Then one day I received a mail from a drummer called Chris, saying that he had heard from somebody that we were looking for a drummer (which we actually did!). We had a short meeting, we gave him a few demos, and a few weeks later auditioned him playing „Faded“. Now that was really cool: Markus and I had no real expectations, but when Chris was like 2 minutes in the song our eyes met and we knew: we had found our drummer!

To this day, we are very proud of the album. It was great that we could do such a project completely on our own: write the music, record it, make a great booklet and all…

So this is how our journey began…and we´ve come a long way!

The concert was filmed in Katowice, Poland on May 18th, 2016, @ the Teatr Slaski and catches the band in full bloom during last year´s „When We Were Beautiful“-Tour, performing a selection of songs from their 4th studio album „When We Were Beautiful“ as well as some all-time fan-favourites such as the epics „Vanessa“ and „November Red“

Markus says:

So here it is – our 4th studio album!

I would not have thought we would ever be able to say that when Markus and I started the band in late 2006 and did our first writing sessions in his tiny flat. But also, as life goes, I would not have thought back then that there would one day be a DANTE album without Markus.
Having to deal with his terrible disease and death is by far the most challenging thing we as a band ever had to go through, it was really heartbreaking to be so helpless.
But this tough time also made us an even stronger unit as we kept fighting for Markus´ wish and our desire to keep going, making the music we love.

To be honest, I never really doubted that musically we were able to write good songs, to write DANTE songs without Markus. As it´s been, I was always overseeing the creative direction of the band, so I knew I could handle that. But I wasn´t so sure about the emotional side, if it would feel right.
But as it turned out, we, as a band, soon found a good way of working, accepting that some things obviously were to change, but that this was not all going to be for the worse, that there were also many chances and things to do different this time, that the band could progress and evolve while, in its core, still remaining true to what the band is all about.

Of course the album would sound different than with Markus still being there, but we knew it would be a very strong album and that he would be very proud of it! That it would be very definitely a DANTE album.

It also makes us very proud to have so many great musicians play on the album. Just the fact that we had Dave Meros, Markus´ favourite bassplayer, play on our farewell song for Markus, is completely awesome! Thanks so much again Dave, this really means a lot to us! But we also like to thank all the other great musicians that contributed to the album, it´s really special for us!

So here it is – our 4th studio album, and in my honest opinion, I think we wrote our most ambitious, cohesive and definitely most modern album so far.I feel it´s a strong statement that DANTE is here to stay, that we´re stronger than ever.
